The gift that keeps on giving

The DEI illegal with the falsified resume who had lawsuits and gun charges but somehow had a six figure salary and perks, was, not surprisingly, also on the grift.

From the Associated Press no less (color me shocked):

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Three months into his tenure leading Des Moines public schools, Ian Roberts asked the district’s board for emergency approval of $116,000 in contracts.

The agreements to provide training on “culturally responsive coaching,” the superintendent said, had to be approved within days. But the district’s procurement manager discovered one contract was earmarked for a company that marketed Roberts as a consultant and speaker, sold his books and helped raise his profile, an Associated Press investigation found.

Finance officials warned Roberts that contracting with Kansas City-based Lively Paradox would be a conflict of interest, and Roberts canceled the special board meeting he’d requested in September 2023.

Good going ladies of the Des Moines school board. Your zeal for DEI really is paying dividends for we lowly bloggers by giving us what seems to be never-ending content.

    It is laughable that the school board, in an attempt to avoid culpability, blamed the third party hired by the board for failure to properly screen the prospective employee during the hiring process.

    I wonder if the school board continues to use that third party.

    In Iowa, like many states, members of a school board are elected. Elected from the local community, members are not politicians with aspirations for higher office. My local board is composed of working professionals like medical doctors, bank officer, lawyer.

    One would think such professionals act in a highly structured manner, verifying everything. Yet put them into a group, such as a school board, and their reasoning becomes diluted. Adherence to policy, especially when that policy is perceived as deficient, becomes casual.

    Too, the business professional usually has staff to which they delegate duties. That mode may -has- cause problems when brought to a public board. One may delegate duties, but never is responsibility delegated.

    School boards, generally, are no better than HOA’s. They’re made up of self-important busybodies who tend to detract from the actual task of education. I’ve never had children, haven’t used a school facility since I graduated high school in 1978, yet I pay thousands in school taxes every year. The school system I “support” has a less than 70% graduation rate, pays for a bus company which can’t run 5 days a week and thinks building multi-milllion dollar new buildings will fix their ills. They get truly upset when I go to their meetings and ask for 30% of my money back.

    Probably 90% of this kind of grift is never even discovered.

    Our local Community College hired a Black female as president who proceeded to give her best friend (a starving artist) a $40,000 commission to create an “official college necklace” to celebrate the college’s 100th anniversary. What? The??Fuck???

      And gave the taxpayers a figurative pearl necklace in the process. It’s the smugness with which these scam artists operate that really pisses me off. Their air of superiority and entitlement when doing these things, and then telling the public – straight faced – that they’ve done nothing wrong, and that the entire deal was a legit, arms length transaction, just burns my ass so badly I can’t stand it. And some people wonder why I want blood. It’s simple, these people are sociopaths, and you don’t rehabilitate one with that sort of mindset.

    The koterie of kotex karens on this school board should rightfully be strung up in public for what they’ve wrought. They should also be asset stripped to their underwear (but for God’s sake, give them a 50 gallon trash bag with a head and arm holes cut in it to cover up with, nobody wants to see these middle aged sea cows in their skivvies) to reimburse the taxpayers who have been defrauded and outright stolen from.

    Of course they won’t be, they’ve already deflected responsibility for their massive screw up, and the taxpayers will not likely seek legal (or illegal) action against them, because reasons. That’s a damned shame, as they absolutely deserve ruination. I’m at the point of being ready to consider those who perpetrate scenarios like this to be guilty of capital offenses. When one so flippantly defrauds the public on this scale, they should be executed, if only to prevent them from ever doing so again. It would have the added benefit of sending the message that we will not allow this bullshit.

    Bjorn–It is odd how a mob type mentality takes over and perfectly logical people lose their reasoning skills. My mother was on a local school board (she didn’t run until after my sister and I were out of school) and she was the rarity. She didn’t make any friends but she was respected, even by the teachers union reps.

    p2–To a large extent you are correct. And it does seem like buildings do hold a special place for spending unnecessary money.

    Johnny–Not surprising.

    BRD–It is the smug and sense of entitlement that’s part of their grift that does annoy for sure. They’ll never bear the responsibility of their actions though and please, no nakedness.

    avraham–You’ve not seen local school boards lately.

    School boards are the entry point for Karens wanting power. Unlike HOA boards, school boards can and do launch political careers. They’re seen as low level, not very interesting, and without much power; in fact, they are superb training grounds for the insufferable twats who go on to run for mayor or other third tier entry points. Check out many female (it’s never male) politicians- you’ll find that they often start at a school board. Very little oversight or accountability but great scope for small minds and big egos.

      doc–People who get elected to school boards for the right reasons are unfortunately few and far between. Agree that the majority of them are mostly made up of women, which, when combined with the woman-dominated colleges of education, just creates a huge pool of suck. And agree that most of them are twats.
