Pretty sure I know the way the wind was blowing on this one

The Trump administration put a stop on the construction of the Revolution Wind project off the coasts of Rhode Island and Connecticut back in August because the project was given the green light by the Biden administration even though the company, Ørsted, hadn’t completed the initial impact paperwork.

A federal judge (appointed by Reagan so must be what, 110?) ruled that construction could continue.

However…

It gets worse (as anything with the Biden stamp on it does). The company was also allowed to defer providing the funds up front for decommissioning.

Despite internal warnings that this kind of exception “increases the risk to the federal taxpayer,” the Biden administration granted Revolution Wind and Vineyard Wind sweetheart breaks for their decommissioning costs that were estimated at $325 million and $191 million, respectively, according to the documents and FGI.

An internal memo rang the alarm bell on this and stated:

“While this is a BOEM decision, BSEE has significant concerns with granting a departure to current regulations that require financial assurance before installation of any facilities,” the memo states. “The primary risk are as follows: delaying receipt of financial assurance increases the risk to the federal taxpayer as identified by Government Accountability Office (GAO), the longer financial assurance is deferred, the greater the chance that the government will not collect [and] decommissioning funds may need to be accessed prior to the expected end of project life due to unforeseen events.”

You may recall that Vineyard Wind had a turbine shatter and sent debris, including carbon fiber (nasty sharp stuff) all over the coastline and into the ocean.

Wind power is not environmentally friendly. Not in the any part of its life cycle, nor does it meet its very expansive energy production goals. The Trump administration is straight up right to reverse course on so-called ‘green energy’ and literally go nuclear (along with fossil fuels).

And IMO, anything the Biden administration touched had grift associated with it in one form or another.

    There is a theory (of which you may be aware) that “fossil fuels” are not from fossils at all, but rather produced by the Earth’s mantle in a very specific biochemical process. I find it no more far- fetched than any other explanation of where oil comes from. If it were indeed sourced from decaying matter, would it not stand to reason that we would have run out long ago?

    TRoy–Indeed! And yes, I’ve heard the same thing and yep, it doesn’t make sense that we haven’t run out like they said we would decades ago.

    Peat and Coal are, yes, dead plants (and animals) that get compressed more and more into fuel.

    Oil, on the other hand, is the 2nd most common liquid on or in the crust of the Earth. And the pressure process takes 2-4 years to compress the proto-oil molecules into oil. It is a very renewable resource.

    Same with natural gas. Created from processes that aren’t related to fossils at all. And renewable (unlike Helium, which we really are running out of.)

    The issue with oil is that the easily (using 1850s tech) pumpable oil has kind of disappeared due to it being easily pumpable. But those ‘drained’ oilfields have been refilling from Day 1 of pumping. More modern and better techniques result in renewed production out of said wells. Said techniques are being used to make ‘unproductive’ fields (using 1850’s tech) productive.

    And the processes are natural and still happening (even coal and peat are still being made.)

    Another lie is that all the tar slicks and tar balls and oil slicks along the coasts are due to sunken ships. Some, few. But many of them are from natural seeps from underwater oil fields.

    Florida, which has lots of tarballs on the east coast, has huge oil reserves that could be productive using sideways boring and other more modern techniques. But, no, can’t do that.

    avraham–That’s the idea.

    NFO–Yep. Biden was happy to leave us on the hook.

    HEB–Right. The assumption was that fossil fuels were limited and it doesn’t seem like anyone tested that hypothesis.
