It’s been enough years, and I live on the opposite side of the country, but in my wasted youth I out ran a cop (successfully). To make the decision truly stupid, I was in a Honda Accord and he was on a motorcycle. The only thing I had going for me was a medium level of traffic, and when I passed him at 110, he still had to jog back to his bike to give chase. The freeway bent to the right, and we broke line of sight. I pulled in between two motor homes crawling along in the slow lane and waited for him to fly by. I don’t drive that way anymore.

Collect calls – heard that some people would have their kids make a collect call when they arrived at whatever destination they were going to. The parents would then refuse to accept the call – they used it to let the parents know the kids made it safely. Never would have dreamed of suggesting that idea to my folks – the disappointed looks I would have gotten from them.

My road trip from KC to Denver actually started in the upstate of SC and ended about 35 miles above Fort Collins. The drive from SC to KC felt considerably shorter, even though it’s about three hours longer. After about two weeks in Northern Colorado, continued on to Walnut Creek just outside San Francisco on I-80. Talk about a long drive through a whole lot of nothing. That part of the trip to Walnut Creek was a few hours longer than the first two legs, even though the speed limit was basically as fast as you wanted to drive, ie. About 90mph until the California state line.
