I’ve used 8″ floppies, 5.25″ floppies, and 3.5″ floppies. Although we wanted a different term for 3.5″ “floppies” since they were stiffer and didn’t flop like the 8 and 5.25 did.
One of the anti-piracy tricks done with 5.25″ was to put an unreadable sector on the disk. To get around this, we’d put a piece of Scotch tape on the floppy hanging out the drive door. We then had a program that would write to the bad sector while we pulled on the tape, slowing down the drive, creating a bad sector. Good times.

Father shouting in Klingon reminded me of a story about police being sent to a trailer home because some people suspected the father of child abuse. Cops couldn’t talk to the kids because the kids only spoke Klingon.

Unferth – I’ve used all those, and the 3″ floppies, as well.
Midwest Chick – I’ll pass on the chainmail booty shorts; I suspect they’ll pinch something horrible.
As for lethologica, I suspect that I’ll soon be telling someone that there’s a word for temporarily being unable to come up with a word for something that I can describe, but I can’t remember it.

The 5.25″ floppies came in single sided or double sided (called flippies because you turned them over to use the other side). I had a tool that would punch a square hole where the write protect notch would be on a single sided floppy, to turn it into a double sided. There were also “single density” and “double density” floppies.
