Nope, no one is entitled to brownies, a popsicle, or a Dr. Pepper

The magic of Tik Tok is bringing the stupid to the forefront. There’s some woman with a perfect manicure talking about how her daughter is ‘entitled’ to a popsicle and if you don’t agree you’re all kinds of names.

This shows how verbiage morphing manifests in unrealistic expectations. EBT is government assistance. It is not a frickin’ entitlement. No one is entitled to junk food. Assistance is designed to keep body and soul together until you can get a job and get your own stuff.

If you want brownies, buy the ingredients and make your own. Buy juice and ice trays and make your own ice pops. You want a pop? Do your own nails and buy one.

I think the thing to do is make assistance embarrassing again. Back in the day, no one wanted to be on assistance. But then the folks in power decided that WIC cards should look like credit cards and that assistance should be normalized. What it did was create multiple generations who only know how to buy things on the taxpayer dime.

If I have to pass a drug test to get a job, they should have to in order to get my money. If I have to make choices about what I get at the store, so should they. And certain things should be off the government dime’s menu options.

    Yeah, a lot of this started when liberals tried removing shame from the equation. You got a lot of the libs crying about how the kids who had to eat the govt meals at school were made fun of, so that had to change. Mothers using food stamps were made to feel bad at the register, etc. So by golly, we need to make everyone feel special and nice and unicorn farts. It’s all about the feelings.

    I say bring shame back. It has a place.

    Innit funny how “Poor” people still find money for beer and cigarettes….the women find enough money to get their hair done and their nails done (and usually a Designer purse) but have to have taxpayer handouts to feed their kids?

    And how I become a racist when I point out that this is especially true in black women (Sometimes true among whites and hispanics too, but to a MUCH lesser degree)…

    The Federal Taxpayer is just another expected source of income for that class of women. Often for generations. (And, BTW, there are more whites on government assistance than black or hispanics, so pointing out the issues isn’t racist)

    This reminds me of that woman from Florida, a couple decades ago, I think it was during the Bush administration, who had a half dozen children, all by different now non-existent fathers, living in a motel room, asking who is going to pay for all this because government was going to cancel her welfare.

    back in the early 2000’s I had a buddy who owned and ran a deli/corner store in Philly. nice enough guy too. anyway,
    when a 13 year old kid came in a bought some junk food with a EBT card and her “friend” asked her how she got it.
    “simple, have a baby and they give you one” was what the 13
    year old girl said. that is when he knew he had to sell and get out. there is no fixing this without a civil war.
    funny thing, after getting out of the army with 2 kids in tow.
    I signed up for bennies when I got home and started looking for a job, they, the people in the place of bennies. gave me EVERYTHING. yup. food stamps (book form) a check for heat as it was fall and 275 per week, UNREAL.
    anyway, found a good job inside of 3 weeks. and still had “stamps” left over. YOU CAN NOT TURN THEM BACK IN.
    I was told to spend them. so, I ended up getting close to 300 bucks worth of meat at the butcher shop with them and filled my parents freezer. this was back in 1991. 300 bucks bought a LOT of meat. weird was the fact that I got signed up for the bennies at the end of the month, so, they gave me the last months worth and the next month worth at the same time?
    and the heat check filled the oil tank for close to 2 years ?
    it was unreal how much they gave away,

    Also, language matters perception wise: the government ‘handouts’ have gone from ‘welfare’ to ‘entitlements’ (of course at the tax payers expense (for clarification that would be you and me). How did this all come about? Look no further than President Despicable Johnson’s ‘Great Society’ program. I’ll leave it to you to look up what he said about the passing of that bill…..

    Yanno, gubmint cheese and gubmint peanut butter was pretty friggin’ good. When my disabled father got his navy pension cut by that trashbag Carter, we got to live on food stamps and .gov food for a year. It was embarassing AF, and that’s OK, it should be. We survived. Reagan restored my father’s pension with his VA reforms (with back pay) his 1st or 2nd month in office, but it was a life lesson my siblings and I all took to heart.
    I cut my work hours back to just 45 a week during college. I’m slowing down now, in my 50’s. I work about 90 hours a week, but then I have my vacation home about 6,000 miles from here for the 3-4 months a year I take off.
    Never, ever again. Pride is supposed to stop us from shaming ourselves.

    When I volunteered at the Salvation Army, the cook told me she didn’t believe men should be made to pay child support. I guess her brother got locked up for failure to pay.

    So knowing what was coming I asked, Well who should pay for your brother’s kids?

    Da government!

    Well that means you and I need to pay more taxes to take care of your brother’s children. You think that’s right?

    No we don’t, the government needs to pay, not us.

    I just went back to washing dishes. Basic economics and civics is no longer taught in some places.

    They can still buy sugared snacks and sodas and restaurant meals. All they have to do is stop buying fancy nails every month, quit with the weaves and wigs, stop buying marijuana (it seems to be a cultural thing to be eternally stoned) and use that money to do all the not-on-EBT food purchases.

    But that would require a thing called ‘responsibility’ and that’s curiously lacking from the permanent welfare class.

    Don–I completely concur.

    Matthew–I vote the latter being the correct answer…

    B–Exactly. And a lot of time they get the money for their nails and designer bags by selling their EBT cards. But we can’t say anything about that either. Because racist, even though not race related.

    Nemo–I think I remember that one.

    dave–Not their personal money so they can just throw it around like confetti.

    Lon–Libs and Dems have been word-morphing forever. I remember Johnson’s comments also…

    Sailor–It was a valuable life lesson. One a lot more folks need to learn.

    Gerry–I have two words–Obama Phone. Same mindset.

    Beans–Yep. If we have to prioritize, then they should too… It’s the part of adulting that isn’t fun.

    I’ve grown up poor. I’ve experienced hardships as an adult, lost 2 homes, 2 vehicles, sold treasured possessions to pay for things for my kids. Never once “qualified” for food stamps or assistance even when we had less than $20 to our name. Somehow the Lord brought us through and we’ve been blessed many times over. Both times we were reduced by my serious medical issues and I now enjoy great health due to avoiding the poisons we call food. And f@ck doctors. But then I guess I’m just virtue signaling or bragging on my white privilege or something…
