Lava Ridge Wind Project–Cancelled

The Autopen Administration pushed this through in December of 2024. On August 6, the Department of the Interior killed the project (before it could start killing birds).

The agency cited legal deficiencies in the project’s authorization and pointed to widespread opposition from Idaho residents, many of whom raised concerns about the project’s proximity to a World War II memorial site.

The Lava Ridge Wind Project was slated to include up to 231 wind turbines spread across nearly 60,000 acres of land.

The Biden-Harris administration’s approval of the project came during its final weeks and was met with criticism from lawmakers, local officials, and residents concerned about its impact on the Minidoka National Historic Site.

It is interesting to me that the lefties continue to call Trump a fascist, when almost everything the Autopen administration was pushed onto people despite their concerns and most often, against the best interests of the US public.

It’s called projection. It’s a specialty of theirs.

  2. “before it could start killing birds” not to mention 231 eyesores made from Chinese steel that will fold in a mild breeze.

Yesterday, I read a story somewhere about China developing a new steel that they will use to house and contain a fusion reactor. It’s supposed to be impervious to deterioration from high strength magnetic fields and the full gamete of deadly rays produced by fusion reactions.

Based on what I’ve seen of the steel used in their windmill towers, good luck with that.

  4. In my recent drive time in Kansas I got to see a very extensive line of windmills along a ridgeline. Most of them were not turning at all, and the ones that were…were moving VERY slowly.

  5. steves–Agree.

Nemo–That’s the other part of these abominations–Chinese steel and foreign companies getting US taxpayer dollars. And no, I wouldn’t trust anything coming out of China to make spec.

    WDS–Right thing, wrong reason.

Frank–They are a boondoggle and always have been.

  7. Nemo – I work in the chemical industry. I used to work with a reactor (called “activator”) that made a catalytic material at very high temperatures (800+ C). We had very strict specifications for the metal used (inconel) so that the vessel wouldn’t destroy itself. After some companies started sourcing inconel from China, we had to re-write the specifications in such a manner that it didn’t allow for Chinese inconel, without specifically saying “no inconel from China, period”. It was a hodgepodge of lawyerese writing that could have all been replaced with “don’t buy from China”, we just couldn’t say that.

  8. @Frank, Ridgelines around camp are dotted with the abominations and are rarely seen turning. I asked a local what she thought about the skyline being ruined with them. Her reply “better those that a nuke plant”.

  9. NFO–And before it started so no damage done.

Don–Good call on that. Can’t be trusted.

    Nemo–That’s an unfortunate answer….

  10. This probably saved this part of Idaho. The 84000 acres they were going to use is over an aquifer that supplies a large area of this part (Jerome County) of Idaho. All of the blasting in the volcanic rock would undoubtably destroyed our aquifer. I believe it was planned for about 750 towers. With a total height of 700 ft. each. That would have been a lot of blasting. Thank you DJT.
