  1. GenX color palette – laugh all you want but I GUARANTEE that all those appliances are still working. Right now I have a 2 year old dishwasher throwing error codes and an 5 year old oven with a malfunctioning broiler. My mom still uses her 70 year old clothes dryer and 40 year old oven with no problems. I’d trade straight up my all my home appliances for stuff from the 70’s.

  4. Fun Fact: Amy Winehouse is 14 years drug free and btw, avocado green & harvest gold are NOT Gen-X colors, trust me on this.

Now, I’m getting on the motorcycle and go curse all you heathens about your turn signals! LOL

  6. An excellent set today and WDS is most correct, those were the colors of my parents kitchen and I am 67, so their math is off. I am so pilfering a few and especially the croc one, I have a certain blogger that lives up north that I torment with croc and farting memes…

  7. Matter of fact, I have that same exact crock pot in my kitchen and it works like a charm.

  9. Jerry–You’re very welcome!

WDS–They are the colors we grew up with because that’s what our parents chose. Go get ’em!! 🙂

Nemo–Chuckles and having some of them stolen is my goal.

Cederq–Glad you found some to take home with you! Those will last forever!

Frank–Glad you like and borrow at will. A shared meme is a happy meme.

  10. The first thing I did when we bought our 60s house was to throw the dishwasher out & put in a beer fridge. Washing dishes help’s my old arthritic hands.

  11. Had one of those fancy stoves with a computer in the house we bought a while back. The circuit board went bad and we bought an all gas stove (no electronics in it) from a local store.
Expect it to last a long time without all the doodads messing things up.

  12. A friend recently got a custom smart-house (smart alex more like). Once you turned the oven on, it would not turn off. You had to flip the circuit breaker. The oven required a software download and reboot. No thanks.

As far as socks go, I buy 20 pairs at a time — all the same. I throw out every other pair of socks I own. I can always grab two random socks and have a match. I may be lazy, but it is a functional lazy.

  13. Still have a 1972 Harvest Gold GE refrigerator at mom’s house that I’ve kept going. It is now on it’s 4th compressor cooling fan, and 5th ice maker kit since new. My parents bought it when they bought the house in spring of 1972. I’ve ordered parts for it enough times to remember the model number is TBF21DRD. Have also replaced a bunch of plastic shelf clips over the years, and the thermostat just once. Still has the original magnetic door seals in very good condition. Any fridge you buy now will be in the landfill inside of 10 years.

My own fridge at home is a 1989 GE in white, has only needed the compressor cooling fan and ice maker replaced once each. My dishwasher is a 27 year old Whirlpool, and has never once needed servicing.

I tried washing dishes with my feet, but I lacked the necessary coordination.

  16. Bob–I do all of my dishes by hand as well.

Frank–I’m not a fan of advanced electronics in my car or appliances.

Unferth–I had a thing on my stove that cut the gas periodically. I went through all of the troubleshooting, called the company who told me to call maintenance, called ‘the guy’ and he just took it off. It was easier. I have too many types of socks, which is a pain.

BRD–With proper care they will last forever.

TN Budd–I’ve been using my left hand more to develop some ambidextrousness.
