The same combination an idiot would have on his luggage

If you don’t recognize the quote above, it’s from Spaceballs (video below). The reason the quote came to mind is because McDonald’s Hiring bot had a similar password to get into the McDonalds hiring system.

On Wednesday, security researchers Ian Carroll and Sam Curry revealed that they found simple methods to hack into the backend of the AI chatbot platform on McHire.com, McDonald’s website that many of its franchisees use to handle job applications. Carroll and Curry, hackers with a long track record of independent security testing, discovered that simple web-based vulnerabilities — including guessing one laughably weak password — allowed them to access a Paradox.ai account and query the company’s databases that held every McHire user’s chats with Olivia. The data appears to include as many as 64 million records, including applicants’ names, email addresses, and phone numbers.

The password was 123456. I’m sure the 6 confused many a hacker.

  1. HEY! How did you guess MY password? Now I have to reverse it, 5-4-3-2-1 so no one will be able to guess it. Pack of maroons… people trust them too, that is so ironic.

  3. I had a client company that had their password for a large surveillance net as PASSWORD. All caps made it okay in their mind.

    1. Gerry–I was talking to someone about that yesterday and wondered if that would work now because hackers are expecting passwords with all of the bells and whistles–characters, numbers, etc….

  5. I like to use the names of crazy ex-girlfriends. After what they put me through, I can never forget them. I reserved the names of the ones who screwed me over the worst for my banking accounts, which seems oddly fitting since that’s the only thing they were actually interested in.

Ok, not really. But it makes for a good story.
