If asking for ID to pay bills by phone is not required by law, it is a stupid idea. If is required by law, it is a tyrannical idea. I can see the IRS being worried about using bill pay to hide financial transactions, but like I said, tyrannical.
A friend’s mom passed away relatively recently. He called to make her mortgage payment and they wouldn’t let him know how much it was. I think he eventually had to make a late charge while waiting for the death certificates. Of course, this was the same bank that would let him pay off his mother’s credit card. Even told him he wasn’t liable and would never have to pay it off. 4 months worth of interest later and they were very interested in having it paid off.

“Percussive maintenance”
We had a FCC-32 (you know how it’s pronounced) mux in Greece with several very specific places we’d hit it to clear specific alarms. Worked every time. Problem was that it was old with rack wiring that had loosened over the years, but the racks were installed back to back with no way to properly fix it without taking the mux out of service for days.
I went back to that site in the ’90s and was overjoyed to see that that damned effer had been replaced (all 18 racks) with a one-rack Lenkurt 46A3-SC.

I had to demonstrate to one of my teenagers that by shaking a booze bottle and noting the size and longevity of the bubbles, a person could read the proof. His reaction: “Well….shit!”. He asked me how I knew that. I said my dad had to demonstrate it to me too.

The $700 car.
I’ve owned about 60 of them over the years. Most even less than that. My current 93 Dodge 3/4 ton 4WD being the most expensive rig I’ve ever owned at $3500.
Friday night on the way home I had to merge onto a short on ramp to get off the highway that is also an off ramp from another one three cars were all lined up and I had to get over. Even with my turn signal on, some jackass in a Chevy pickup didn’t want to let me in and it was either slam on the brakes or come on over. He laid on the horn, I said Fuck you I’m coming over and he finally chickened out. I guess something about a big red Dodge relentlessly getting bigger in his windshield finally registered.
Asshole anyway.

Phil–Some folks just gotta be assholes and those short merges are a bitch. I drove my first car for 175000 miles and would still be driving it if a deer hadn’t committed suicide on it.
