Two stories just crossed my feed and both mentioned Chinese nationals and the University of Michigan.

The first story is a student who registered and cast a vote in the general election. He turned himself in and then took it on the lam back to China.

During his arraignment, a judge ordered him to surrender his Chinese passport and not leave the state, according to an FBI criminal complaint unsealed on Friday, CBS News reported. The passport Gao turned in had a serial number ending in “1332.”

After missing court hearings on March 6 and April 24, a warrant was issued for Gao. According to prosecutors, on Jan. 19, Gao boarded a Delta flight from Detroit International Airport to Shanghai, China, using a Chinese passport in his name with a serial number ending in “7137.”

So dude voted in the general election AND had two passports. How many others are there??

The second story is a lot scarier. Two Chinese nationals with ties to the Communist Party are charged with smuggling an agricultural pathogen into the country.

The Justice Department charged two Chinese nationals with “conspiracy, smuggling goods into the United States, false statements, and visa fraud.”

Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, citizens of the People’s Republic of China, are accused of smuggling a “biological pathogen” into the United States for their work at a University of Michigan laboratory.

“The FBI arrested Jian in connection with allegations related to Jian’s and Liu’s smuggling into America a fungus called Fusarium graminearum, which scientific literature classifies as a potential agroterrorism weapon,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Michigan stated.

Interestingly enough, Liu is also back in China.
