In CA a 13 year old girl was able to get away from an attacker who tried to punch her in the face by using her martial arts skills and apparently broke the guy’s ankle.
The quote from the local gendarme:
“The person was acting unusual, like potentially under the influence of something or dealing with some other personal issues,” said Trayer.
“Personal issues”. Seriously. I think he was channeling this guy.
LOL… My granddaughter just achieved the level of Grey/Black belt in Jiu Jitsu. She’s nine years old. I’ve watched her tournaments and of late… HOLY MACKEREL!!!!
She’s coming to visit in July.
I’m a little scared!

one of the best things you can do is teach your kids how to fight. I taught all of my kids how. it just one less thing you have to worry about. some asshole taking advantage of them.
I also taught them to shoot and how to knife fight as well.
it does them a world of good knowing they can, if need be
handle themselves.

dave–I took martial arts in HS and college. Also knew how to shoot and took a knife fighting class a few years ago.

Taught all my neices and goddaughters some effective techniques as soon as they were able to learn. Practice and refinement over the years has given them confidence in so many other disciplines.
Every one of them has had unfortunate need of those lessons, so they are glad they learned.

If anyone older than a 13 year old girl is attacking a 13 year old girl, then whoever did the attacking better be thankful that it was only the 13 year old that applied the necessary physical violence necessary to remedy the situation. I am a father of 3 boys. God, in his wisdom saw fit to give me no daughters- and for that, I am thankful.

T Roy–I’m sure she caught him by surprise, considering the size difference, but at least she didn’t hesitate due to her training.

oldest girl called one night, crying and trying to talk.
I found out her “guy: at the time got a bit hands on kind of thing. she was scared he was going to die.
choking on his own puke on the floor. turning blue and what not. I told her not to worry if he still moving.
called said asshole the next day. I told him if he tried that again,
I come out and show him what she doesn’t know how to do.
she was 5 sates away at that time. he never tried it again.
they broke up a little while after that. she married to a good solid guy now and has been for the last 19 years
you don’t mess with the kids of soldiers
you never know what dad may have taught them .

dave–Good on her but I hate that she had to use those skills. And great on you for giving her the skills she needed in that situation.

her husband was going to teach her how to shoot. she out shot him. it kind of scared him that she was better with HIS weapons than he was. I sent out a old photo of her at 13.
wearing a steel pot and shooting a M-16 on full auto.
was helping run the range that weekend and couldn’t get a sitter. GI’s are good with little kids as a rule. they remind them of home. she was the oldest, so she got a chance to “play” with a lot of weapons with dad. then again, it was a different world back in the 1970-80’s compared to now.
