The Hur tapes

I listened to the Hur tapes with Biden. It’s pretty clear that he is suffering from dementia and that everyone around him was covering for him, probably in order to stay in power. Because they had the power of the ‘autopen’ and a phone, to paraphrase Obama.

That said, they shouldn’t have taken a pass on prosecution. While Biden would have been found not guilty due to mental incompetence, it would have given impetus to investigate who/what/where with the autopen.

Because even if Biden had given permission for the autopen in one instance, it should have been renewed each time and there should have been safeguards to ensure he was even competent enough to give the okay.

That clearly didn’t happen. So there begs the question about the validity of any autopen-signed orders. All the non-prosecution did was enable the Shadow Government to stay in place and continue to do damage.

  1. Yup, I’d say all the pardons issued his last few days in office should be null and void. And a very careful eye should be cast on every auto-pen signature. And everyone involved should be prosecuted too. I’d say more, but I don’t wanna fed-poast.

    1. Don–I think that should be the next step. I read yesterday where the person who ran the pen at those times has been identified.

  2. Saw this earlier regarding the auto-pen and I had no idea what the protocols required for it.

  3. It will be a complete rat’s nest to try and untangle, let alone prosecute, what happened with the auto-pen. “I was just following what Biden told me verbally.” Mush-brains will either be incoherent or deceased before you’d ever make it to trial.

You have Mike Johnson’s damning testimony that Biden didn’t even know what was in one of the Executive Orders he did sign.

The first step is to make the auto-pen illegal going forward — regardless of president, regardless of party. Either the President of the United States physically signs it or not.

The bigger problem is how do you handle a president whose brains are mush. In theory, we have the 25th amendment, but it was pretty clear that the people who could invoke the 25th were benefiting from it not being invoked.

What policy or procedure we would have wanted in place when Biden was president? Do we want those same policies and procedures in place when our guy is in office?

Pelosi complained that there never was a law passed (and signed) that outlined the procedure for congress to invoke the 25th amendment. I consider that feature, not a bug. After all, invoking the 25th amendment is effectively impeachment without due process.

TL;DR: The situation sucks, and I don’t think there is a good solution — let alone a good solution that has a chance of being implemented.

    1. Unferth–It’s tough with dementia. I know someone whose mother had to sign a legal document. She had dementia but they brought in four or five people over the course of an hour to make sure that AT THAT TIME, she was competent and knew the ramifications.
