When is charity not charity or a donation not a donation?

Oh, you all already know the answer. It’s when the government uses our tax dollars to give to organizations that we would never support. That’s what USAID did. That’s what most federal agencies do. And it’s usually to left-leaning entities like Catholic Charities or Planned Parenthood.

On a more micro level, union members run into the same thing. Their leadership gives to causes that the members themselves would prefer not to fund financially.

You know what’s better? Do what Sheryl Crow did and give directly to causes you support. You like NPR, then give freely of your own dollars. Sell your possessions and give the proceeds as you’d like. Rock on.

That’s what truly supporting your chosen cause is.

    Want more money? Spend it wisely and give us updates.

    Foreign aid? Start their own GoFundMe.

    War? GoFundMe.

    the general welfare clause in the Constitution means “general.” E.g. building roads. It does not mean that congress can tax in order to support specific groups

    Ms. Crow has the right to virtue signal all she wants.
    Just like she did when she bought the Tesla to signal her commitment to fight climate change.

    Who knows what virtue will tickle her fancy next year?

    I’ll tell you three things regarding Ms Crow. One, I won’t ever be buying a Tesla. Two, I won’t be donating to NPR as they’re already getting my money. And three, I never ever took her demand of “only two squares” of toilet paper seriously.

    I bet she smells like a litterbox.

    What I despised while in the army was the constant pressure from superior officers and ncos for us grunts to “volunteer” our charity giving to unitedway, redcross and other charities the occifers deemed worthy. We weren’t paid well as it was and you were expected to contribute. They made it difficult for you if you didn’t if an occifer or nco had it out for you. Same with companies that do that. I give to whom I give, locally and in person. I do not give to charities that compensate their executives in the high six figures plus healthy as hell expenses. Governments should not give to charities or ngos that perpuarte

    Virtue signaling at best. Stupid at worst.

    Did she give the subsidy she got for purchasing the car so she could impress her friends back when she bought it back to the Federal Government?

    She doesn’t do things for principle, she does it to impress someone.

    BTW, look at the photo background. I would say late fall, not recently. Something amiss there. Like she sold it long ago maybe. Or reused some photos. Something isn’t right.
    But hey, she impressed people with her announcement. Maybe helped pay for the inflated salaries at NPR for a few people for a few hours. She certainly didn’t harm Musk…he already got his money.
    A perfect example of what is wrong with Liberal women.

    Gerry–My point exactly–she can do what she wants with her money. Can’t do it with mine.

    WDS–Yuck–had no idea on the last one. That’s just plum nasty.

    Cederq–Agree completely. Back in the day there was a guy that used to come by with tickets to something that we were supposed to buy as a fundraiser. Never got the tickets….

    B–Good point on the subsidy.

    Cederq-Had the same thing in the Marines. Found a listed charity that was essentially the proto-GOA and funneled the “not required” amount to them. 😁

    As regards Sheryl Crow, a song with the lyrical hook “all I wanna do is haughtily explicate my moral superiority to you damned proles” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

    She can get a bicycle built for two. Better get Lance a special seat made for a guy with shriveled testicles, though. Meanwhile, I’m still whittling down a hoard of toilet paper left over from the COVID panic.

    Procter & Gamble (aka Push & Grunt to the peons as I was in the late 70s) did the same. One year the Admin Asssts (aka secretaries) didn’t get a raise (low profits they claimed). They all gave just 5 cents to the charities.
