The UK is finally doing the right thing–banning puberty blockers for children

They’ve been inching towards banning puberty blockers for children for a while.  Their first step was shutting down the medical establishment that was doing it.

  Now:

Puberty blockers for under-18s with gender dysphoria will be banned indefinitely across the UK except for use in clinical trials, the government has announced.

Wes Streeting, the health secretary, said that after receiving advice from medical experts, he would make existing emergency measures banning the sale and supply of puberty blockers indefinite.

They actually declared an emergency to put an end to it.

The Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) published expert advice that there is ‘currently an unacceptable safety risk in the continued prescription of puberty blockers to children’.

This comes at a time when the US Supreme Court has heard arguments about banning puberty blockers for children with ‘gender dysphoria’.  Like the Tennessee law that is in contention (not sure why, it seems logical to me), the UK will allow the use of the drugs for children who are experiencing a true medical issue (very early puberty, etc.).

We won’t know the result for months–I can only pray that children will be protected and that the damage in the meantime is minimal.

  1. I'm confused. Why, at least in America, can a child, anyone under 18, choose to make a decision about their sexuality that makes permanent changes, and that same person Can't contract, can't join the military, but they Can make decisions that affect their future in such a way? Who decided That?
