Civic Duty–Completed

Went and voted earlier this week.  I am generally a stickler for voting ‘on the day’, but after reading a bunch of comments and stuff about shenanigans on November 5, decided to go ahead and get it done.

Our central location had a line out the door when I got there and it was still out the door when I left.  And this was in the middle of the morning.

One woman came back in looking for her daughter, who was taking her time.  Which was fine except then she started talking about how she told her to vote, yadda yadda. She didn’t mention names or parties but I looked at her right in the eye and told her she was walking close to the line of electioneering in a no-electioneering zone (there’s a big ol’ sign right there) and she needed to shut it.  Much to my surprise, she did.

In any case, my vote is in.  I double checked it on the screen and took the time to double check the printout as well, which is all I can do.

The ladies working were impressed that my physical signature actually matches my ‘finger on the screen’ signature.  I guess that’s the beauty part of having a crappy signature–at least it is consistent.

Now the wait begins!

  1. In 2000, I went to vote in person. It was late and I was the only one at the voting location. I had my shirt on that said on the back “You're too stupid to spend your own money. – Al Gore, 2000″When the little old lady manning the polling place saw it, she really didn't know what to do. Didn't help.that I was over 6' tall, had a beard, and was close to 220.

  2. So what you're saying is I can't wear my Trump golf shirt and hat to the polling place?I'm also a stickler for voting in person on election day. I live in a red town in a red county in a red state so I'm not too worried about shenanigans. I will double check though.

  4. I appreciate your optimism but I don’t share it. This is the first year since I turned 18 that I won’t be voting in a presidential election.

  5. As a guy working in the local board for the final time, I’ll tell you that this may be the last election for this country you’re able to vote in and you should for a simple reason: if you don’t vote now then the last time you did was absolutely the last time you will have done so in this country.

  6. Unferth—I heard a lady this year voted in her bra. Had a Trump shirt on and it counts as electioneering.Mike—You might have to vote shirtless and hatless. For some reason the GOP and Trump campaign were urging people to early vote.Avraham—I heard they were but people are getting wise to that game.ColdSoldier—I understand the pessimism but everybody who would vote for Trump and doesn’t is voting for Harris. The dems want people not to vote and to not trust the process. It works in their favor.Anon—Yes.

  9. Avraham–Yes, look what's happened in the Obama and Harris/Biden years. The only way we have right now is to get them out. Coldsoldier–Voting isn't just for the President. Local elections, state level elections can make real things happen. If you just sit back, you're complicit.
