At long last these morons are getting some justice for interfering with the travel and health of their fellow citizens.
The judge, in his very English way, called the five people batshit crazy without using that term. Here’s what he said:
“Your fanaticism makes you entirely heedless of the rights of your fellow citizens. You have taken it upon yourselves to decide that your fellow citizens must suffer disruption and harm, and how much disruption and harm they must suffer, simply so that you may parade your views,” he added.
It is both sad and interesting that the judge had to remind the jury that they were to take into account the crimes of the five fanatics, not their cause.
From the sentencing remarks regarding the cost to the public of their four day spree:
- Delay to travelers: 50,856 hours
- Number of affected vehicles: 708,523
- Cost incurred by Police: over 1 Million pounds
- Other economic costs: 769,966 pounds
Additionally people missed doctor’s appointments (one person missed a cancer treatment and had to wait two months (socialized medicine) for another appointment. People missed flights, services were delayed due to people not being able to get to work, deliveries of food and medicines were delayed.
The big thing was as much disruption as was caused, the five people sentenced wanted more. Plus when they did all of this, they were out on bail for previous actions. Read the remarks for the list of prior offences (using the British spelling) of these miscreants.
IMO, they got what they deserved and it needs to happen to all of them.
Per comments below, they really didn’t get what they deserved (one commentor had some good ideas), but they got more than anyone else has so far. So it’s a start.
