    When someone quotes John Adams my mind goes to The Alien and Sedition Acts (1798).Even in the early USA it is quite easy to go from revolutionary to autocrat.

    Gerry, that's true. Together, they could balance one another's worse ideas. We have several examples of the Founding Fathers going astray because no one had the ability to check them.They were an amazingly talented group of men, but they were human.–Tennessee Budd.
