Our tax dollars, working because the FBI didn't

$138.7 million of taxpayer funds are being given to the victims of Larry Nassar.  Because over 100 people have accused the FBI of mishandling allegations of sexual assault (many were children) that were made.

‘I’m sorry that so many different people let you down, over and over again,’ Wray said. ‘And I’m especially sorry that there were people at the FBI who had their own chance to stop this monster back in 2015 and failed.’

Regarding the agents who screwed the pooch so completely (article from 2021):

Langeman was a supervisory special agent in the FBI’s Indianapolis field office when he interviewed Olympic medalist McKayla Maroney in 2015 about her allegations of abuse by Nassar. The inspector general report said that he and Abbott lied to investigators from the inspector general’s office about their actions and that they never officially opened an investigation.

When the report was released this summer, Langeman was no longer acting as an FBI agent, federal law enforcement sources said. An agent cannot be fired while an inspector general investigation is pending, and the probe lasted three years. Abbott retired several years ago.

So the one guy retired and is presumably picking up a federal pension for the rest of his days.

Langeman wasted even more taxpayer money by appealing his dismissal.

Langeman claimed that his termination violated his constitutional rights protected by the Fifth Amendment’s Due Process Clause. He argued that his termination violated a constitutionally protected property interest in his continued employment and deprived him of a constitutionally protected liberty interest in his reputation, thereby damaging his future employment in law enforcement.

The court upheld his termination but dang, that takes some pretty huge cojones.  He couldn’t be bothered to pursue allegations of child sexual abuse leading to that abuse continuing for YEARS and he thinks he’s the wronged party?  What a fucktard.  He deserves to be in prison.

  3. Unless and until the officers themselves are financially accountable, this will just keep going on. Add in their immediate supervisors and maybe even middle management. When the personnel involved have to pay a significant part of the settlement themselves, using their pension and possessions, then they might think before acting (or not acting, in this case).Essentially, there is no real accountability for these people. Until there is, this won't stop.
