Captain Obvious says: Given that it was an Obama judge that declared banning illegals from possessing firearms is unconstitutional, I strongly suspect the goal is to undermine citizens from owning firearms.

Hang on a second, I thought that Miranda rights warning that US police have to give everyone, including non-citizens, dates from the '60s. So if the 5th & 6th amendment rights apply to non-citizens why not the 2nd? To legally enter your country I must have no criminal record yet I am treated like a convicted felon regarding gun possession. I ask this because I am a Canadian gun owner who is contemplating buying a winter home anywhere it doesn't snow, possibly immigrating permanently after a few years. Since I enjoy going to the range and would like to have the means to defend my house, I have been looking at the Philippines (very hot/humid, can only rent a house, can own guns) and the Dominican Republic (much closer, can buy house, can own guns, carry permit possible, Spanish speaking). If I were allowed to have arms in a southern state, well I can drive there and don't have to learn Spanish.
