It's never that simple

The place where I live just got fiber internet.  I had a T-Mobile box which worked great, but fiber is better.

So I call T-Mobile to cancel my account.

I’m told that it was canceled and that I just needed to take the box to the nearest T-Mobile store.

So I head into town and hit the T-Mobile store.

The kid behind the counter sadly tells me that they can only take returns if it’s been less than 14 days (it’s been a couple of years).  He’s a nice kid so I hold my tongue.

So on my way home, I call T-Mobile.  And I’m on hold for about twice what their system said.

The little Indian girl gets my call.  First thing I do is ask for a supervisor.  She asks ‘why’?  I answer, ‘because you don’t get paid enough for the world of shit that I’m bringing’.

Transfer immediately to supervisor…

Who gets the brunt of my ire that ended with ‘If T-Mobile was the last cell phone provider on this earth, I’d take two tin cans with a string between them and use that instead.’

But now my account is truly canceled and I got the mailing label I need.  But now I have to find a box.  And go to the UPS store. What a pain in my ass.

I know the FTC just dinged Amazon for making it so difficult to cancel Prime.  I wonder if this kind of crap falls into that category?

  1. Chick, that is a feature not a bug… companies make it hard as hell to cancel, call customer service or my favorite, have an hour wait for a phone call to the business center, tech support, and talking to.. gasp!… an exalted “Supervisor.” They figure you sit on purgatory hold and say to hell with it and just continue to use their product or service. Just wait until you have to do the same for your fiber optic service.

  5. Cederq and Matthew–I know it's a game. They want to wear us down so they can get that next month's payment. The high wait times, the runarounds are all designed to make you give up.Matthew–I had the same thing with the Epoch Times. They do excellent reporting and I like them so I signed up. But I wasn't using them enough to get value for my dollar. It took several hours to get kicked loose from them.LargeMarge–Not seeing the connection, but okay?
