Glad I’ve got my old AD&D books because Wizards of the Coast is now removing half-species characters from reprints of the books.
They are doing it in the name of the ‘racial sensitivity’ of made up characters in a made up world. Perhaps they have been playing so long that they don’t realize that orcs and elves, although having their analogues in our world, aren’t real.
“Frankly, we are not comfortable, and haven’t been for years with any of the options that start with ‘half,’” D&D lead rules designer Jeremy Crawford claimed, “The half construction is inherently racist so we simply aren’t going to include it in the new Player’s Handbook.”
So I doubt that fantasy creatures give a rats’ half eaten ass about half-elves, half-orcs, etc. being run in a dungeon master’s world and the minds of the participants in a role-playing game.
“This hate crime against mixed race children, erasing them from fantasy games, is yet another example of the pure malevolence of the leftist corporate and creative classes,” Twitter user The Gorgomons tweeted.
To me, half-elves, etc., just mean that different races get along well enough to have kids.
Maybe I’m just biased because I ran a half-elf character back in the day.
Gary Gygax has to be spinning in his grave.
