And then they came for Ian Fleming

Oh for fuck’s sake….

Ahead of a coming re-release to mark the 70th anniversary since the release of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale novel, the first in the James Bond series, the publication reports that the works have been “rewritten” to appease woke sensibilities.

The revelation comes after a week of controversy surrounding recent reprints of Roald Dahl’s books, with it being revealed that the works of fiction have been edited in order to change or remove language deemed problematic.

According to The Telegraph, this practice of editing problematic content, supposedly to appeal to modern audiences, has now extended to Fleming’s work, with so-called “sensitivity readers” being drafted in to examine the novels.

So riddle me this, if a publisher is re-releasing books for their 70th anniversary and they’ve been extensively edited, then how is it a re-release?  It’s not the same book.

I have all of the old Ian Fleming James Bond books, which is apparently a good thing.  Kipling is probably next up on the chopping block.

  1. It's 1984 4 decades late. Where they basically erase history and reissue it in the way they choose. Pop literature isn't the only thing they are busy 'editing'.

  2. I too, have all the Ian Fleming's, James Bond series of books and some other titles of his. I have all the James Bond DVDs including the “female” james bond, I have it, not my favorite. 1984, it finally has caught up to it's promise. I guess those of us that love original content of books written will become the monks of old, hiding libraries and trying to dispense knowledge undercover…

The King James version was done in 1611 and the verbiage was deliberately made to seem older. Also some words were edited to match James' worldview. It's just continued from there.Cederq–I have always pictured myself as the old woman at the start of Fahrenheit 451 being burnt up on a pile of books.
