Meet Big Brother's Hag of a Sister

This hasn’t gotten a lot of press, but it’s indicative of a huge issue.

The story:  a mom was going with her daughter to see the Rockettes at Madison Square Garden (MSG).

But Conlon wasn’t allowed in the venue after Madison Square Garden Entertainment’s facial recognition technology identified Conlon. Security guards approached Conlon and removed her from the venue, NBC New York reported.

The mom apparently works for a New Jersey law firm that is engaged in litigation regarding a restaurant owned by MSG.   She is not part of that team and does not practice in New York.

Now here’s the scary part:

“They knew my name before I told them,” Conlon reportedly said. “They knew the firm I was associated with before I told them. And they told me I was not allowed to be there.”

If Madison Square Garden has this technology in place and is using it, who else is using it that we don’t know about??

  1. Simple solution….she's a lawyer. SUE THEM.

  2. One of the extremally few good things about living in Illinois, we have a facial recognition law that prohibits that activity.Mostly to protect politicians from getting caught…..

  3. I guess it would be safe assume they had every person who worked in that law firms picture in the database. They wouldn't want clerks and investigators slipping in if they only had lawyers photos uploaded. So where did they get the pictures from? Company website? Driver's licenses? Surveillance operations?Do they share that data with NBC at 30 Rock?Quite the wormhole.

  4. Dan–I think the fact that they had facial recognition software that knew who she was and where she worked was a bigger issue.Matthew–I agree that it was probably for the benefit of the politicians. They keep getting caught anyway though…. ;-)Gerry–I'm assuming that they have a much larger and robust database with flags for certain people or employers. Like DMV and tax return level of database.

  5. Yes…MSG has and is using facial recognition software. That genie is out of the bottle…never to be put back. So the solution to companies and places that use and abuse said software is to sue them for using and abusing that software. If it costs companies $$$ when they violate rights then they will think twice about doing so. Their bank balance is really the only thing they listen to.

  6. Yep. And that's for a commercial venue. My understanding is that they are running something similar at airports around the country.
