And at the end, we're just ourselves

Sorry about the no-posting yesterday.  I was watching the Queen’s funeral.  The rituals, the people, the intricacies of dress were all fascinating to me for some reason.

Some observations and opinions:

  • William and Kate have some really good kids.  And I don’t think that comes from good nannies–it comes from good parenting.
  • James, Viscount Severn, at the age of 14 showed extraordinary grace and dignity as the youngest grandchild at the Vigil.
  • The men they chose as pallbearers were truly amazing.  Even though there were six of them, they hoisted a solid oak casket, lined with lead, and containing the remains of Elizabeth II in what looked like an effortless act.

The rituals that surrounded this funeral were amazing.  But the one that struck me the most was at the end.

The Crown, the Orb, and the Scepter were all removed from the coffin.  Because even though she came into the Chapel as a Queen, she was leaving as a ‘simple Christian woman’ who was joining her family and her beloved husband (they had agreed that whoever went first, they would wait for the other and be interred together).

It was really quite profound and a final lesson to the world.

  1. Think about how many people were born and died that never saw a Queen/King buried?I was amazed at watching some of the funeral as to the fact that they couldn't really rehearse for this event. Everyone in their small units could, but not big picture.DetailsdetailsdetailsCan't imagine that all being organized. Can't imagine the SECURITY !!!!!All of the Royals in the same place at the same time……..(wet dream for the old IRA)Being of Scottish descent, I don't give a hoot about the royal family but I do respect the tradition and honor that goes with it (being figure heads, not actual rulers).Going from QE II to Chuckles 3 is like going from Trump to Brandon……
