Pretty sure this only happens to me

I was in town preparing to go around one of the new roundabouts that the city fathers are so proud of.  Movement catches my eye by the gutter.

At first I thought it was a rabbit or something but closer look–a kitten.  Fluffy dark grey kitten.

Fuck.

I swing my car around, get into the nearest parking lot and go to where I saw it.  It’s crouched in the grass trying to hide.  I sit and try to get it calmed down.  No joy.

I try to get in between in and six lanes of street.  No joy.

It goes racing across the road-I’m right behind it trying to get people to stop.  Fortunately traffic was uber-light due to the holiday.  One guy doesn’t stop and got the full fury of my wrath.  He barely missed the kitten and I was almost a hood ornament.  So I was able to ‘motherfucker’ someone before 9:00 am.  It’s not like I wasn’t visible in a bright pink shirt running in the middle of the street.  Asshole.

Kitten runs under the door of a car wash that’s open.  I go to  the office and they shut down the wash immediately.  Sorry not sorry to the folks in line.

Got it cornered (poor thing was scared to death) and one of the kids takes off his jacket and gets it wrapped up.  It wasn’t a feral and calmed down immediately.

It’ll find a home with one of them, I’m certain.

  1. The city folk just keep on dropping off their cats here on my homestead and we feed em , neuter em , and put them to work . No mice or rats here and we like it that way .

In my life of limited education, the class that I remember the most verbatim was my driver's ed class.”You don't swerve for animals” (the exception being anything bigger than a cow)Mr. Black: “I have a little dog that I love, but if it's a choice between me and the dog, the dog is history, animals aren't equal to humans.””I was almost a hood ornament”Please don't anyone think that I would want a cute fluffy kitten squished on the highway.

  3. robehr–Good symbiotic relationship. But getting them fixed is key!Matthew–For good or ill, my instinct is different–I'll take the hit. In this case, traffic wasn't moving fast–all he had to do was brake–there wasn't anyone behind him.

  4. It doesn't only happen to you. Though the part about the car wash is not in any of my experiences. 🙂
