One of the last three original Navajo Codetalkers from World War II died last week. If you didn’t know, the use of the Navajo language in WWII gave us the boost we needed to win the war and their efforts saved thousands of lives. It’s the only code that the Japanese didn’t break. Over 400 Navajo men served as Marines from 1942-1945–most of them were Code Talkers.
Their special service to the war effort is celebrated today, August 14, which is the day the Japanese surrendered.
Take some time to remember these men. Watch Windtalkers, maybe (the actual Code Talkers gave it a 75% accurate rating).
Remember their sacrifices.
