A-10s Rolling

B posted a pic showing a couple of A-10s over at the Fort Wayne airport a couple of days ago.  I finally got my video of them rolling into a manageable format.

Wasn’t able to catch them actually in takeoff due to the way we were positioned on the taxiway.

  1. A memorable sight was landing on the parallel with two F-18s. On final TWR asks I keep my speed up and look to my right. I was in a Piper Arrow. Presently the Hornets hove into view at high alpha with everything dragging. They maintained formation while flying at my speed. Then they lit out. When TWR clears me to land he says, pretty neat, huh? I thanked him for setting it up.An absolutely clear visibility under an overcast after a fast moving cold front swept through. Three C-130s nose to tail pass my 11 to 1 o'clock 1 mile 500 feet below me. The air was incredibly clear, the colors vibrant. I guess ya had to be there. Returning from some IFR practice I was hoping to get close to the B-25s flying in for a gathering. No luck. But I cancelled in the air when I heard a B-17 come on freq. I circled around and caught him about 10 miles out from the field. I flew at his 9 o'clock 1/2 mile on long final.Approaching the FAF, TWR reports a blimp transiting the approach corridor. I call target in sight. What's funny was a BE 1900 streaking down from FL240 on long final never saw the blimp even as they passed under it.

  2. As someone that lives in Illinois, should I be concerned that Indiana has A-10s??

  3. Rick–It sounds amazing!! We have been in the air when some old warbirds were coming in and it's a sight that really can't be explained. I can't imagine the C-130s underneath you!Matthew–Pretty sure that the A-10s are to keep Illinoians on their side of the border- 🙂 (and I say that as someone who grew up downstate).
