Not surprisingly, the database system containing immunization and vaccination status for everyone in Indiana is a pretty open book. To the point where the Indiana Dept of Health had to put up a reminder regarding the limits of the use of the system.
It says, in part:
“Schools should not access CHIRP to obtain the vaccination status of any staff… because it’s not authorized.”
Well duh shit. Really? But people are people and they are a curious sort. I worked in a position where safeguarding private data was a huge part of my job. This is a clusterbomb of monstrous proportions.
But they have given school administrators, nurses, and public health workers carte blanche to look up anyone they want with no knowledge of what information they’ve accessed or really any consequences.
For fuck’s sake.
