Bending knee to the crowd never works

 The University of North Carolina screwed the pooch, not once, but twice.  First, they offered an endowed chair (Knight Chair in Race and Investigative Journalism at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media) to Nikole Hannah-Jones.  These positions generally come with tenure but she was offered a five year contract instead.  

A major donor (actually the guy for whom the school is named) had written with concerns about her hiring.  She is the author/creator of the NYT’s 1619 Project upon which a lot of Critical Race Theory is based.

Then the screaming began, because ‘racism’.

So the UNC Board of Trustees decided to give her tenure anyway.

And she then told them to pound sand.

So UNC has their privates in a vice because they are racists either way.  They should have stuck to their guns.

    UNC sure lucked out, through no fault of their own, with her declining their offer of tenure. Had she accepted it would have been even more of a joke, and a joke that could not be terminated.Offering tenure to that fraud who doesn't even have the basic qualifications to be considered for tenure was an insult to all profs working without tenure at UNC.

    I agree that they lucked out and, most importantly, their students lucked out.I couldn't believe tenure was on the table to start or that the Board made them change their minds.
