Easter Eggs for a B5 Fan

I read.  A lot.  Put something with words on a page in front of me and it’s off to the races.  I used to get so caught up in books that my dad would mess with me–tickling the top of my head and stuff and see how long it would take for me to notice.  I think one time it took almost a half hour (he was patient).

One thing that good authors do is throw easter eggs into their writing.  Basically in-jokes or references for their readers.  One of my favorite authors, JL Curtis, does this, especially in his sci-fi books.  Butcher in his Dresden Files series and Aaronovitch in his Rivers of London series do this a lot also.

Right now I’m reading Fated by Benedict Jacka.  He threw out some good ones at the start of the book but then he introduced Mr Morden.  B5 watchers are nodding their heads right now.  The physical description was straight out of the show and of course, Mr Morden is a Bad Guy (as is any character with a name that’s a riff on Mordred or who has an all-seeing eye as their standard).

If Mr Morden’s head ends up on a pike, I’m going to be giggling like a maniac for a couple of days.

  2. It's nice when writers treat the readers like friends and makes for a much better read.
