Blogging has been light due to preparation for a road trip. Went a couple of states over to start up a new gig. Driving in the Midwest in the spring is truly a thing of joy and beauty. Green plains, green hills, freshly turned fields, cows, and sunshine. And since I was headed west, the Mighty Mississippi. I do wish there was a safe way to stop on one of those bridges and just take the whole thing in.
I came back via a more southern route and was able to see the Mississippi flood plain up close. The river was inside her banks, but man, that plain spread out for miles.
Took about 7.5 going out and 8.5 coming back. I had snacks and only stopped to fill up the car’s tank and empty mine. Took a day or two to stop being tired but was ready to go on Monday morning.
I’ve lived in a lot of different places, but Midwest Chick is an appropriate moniker for me.
ETA: The worst thing about the trip was driving the last part back in the dark. Those cars with headlights that allow the driver to see the ‘individual hairs on a raccoon’s asshole’ (I think that Kenny used this phrase) are truly hell on other drivers. Nothing like getting hit with eleventy-million lumens on a dark country highway to complete blow my night vision.
