The IRS is in way over its head. They have at least 20 million returns on hold. Mine is somewhere in that queue.
To be fair, they’ve had to field a lot of changes–additional government checks and other stuff in addition to their regular job. I got the scary letter saying they were maybe going to need something from me in the next sixty days around thirty days after my refund was supposed to be in my account. Same letter that a friend of mine in another state got.
Of course this is the one year I”m getting a pretty big return due to circumstance changes. And, of course, my $1400 is on hold until they process my 2020 return.
But their excuses are getting kind of stupid too. They say they’ve run out of ink for their printers so they can’t process anything. Don’t bother calling them either–nobody’s answering the phone.
If we all just paid a flat tax and our returns could be done on a postcard, then this wouldn’t happen.
