 Well, three officers involved either with savaging a 73 year old woman with dementia or laughing about it, or both were allowed to resign.  This means that they get to keep their pensions.  The citizens of Loveland are understandably upset.  They are calling for the Chief of Police to resign also.  There are five officers in all named in a federal lawsuit brought on behalf of Mrs Garner, the woman who was brutalized and left without medical care while the officers laughed at their horrific actions.  The lawsuit can be found here.

Although the new DA is investigating, the old one had seen the videos of Mrs Garner’s arrest when dismissing her arrest for shoplifting and he did nothing.  This process will continue and I’ll continue to watch.

Still waiting for arrests for assault and battery and negligence though.

I’m going to take this post in a different direction though.

I understand why the family would want their mother to have freedom to go to the store and live by herself.  I really, honestly, truly do.  I’ve been there.

But when things get bad, and it sounds like Mrs Garner’s dementia had progressed to that edge, she was in danger.  She didn’t understand changes in her environment.  She’s now in a memory care unit, but she probably should have been there before this incident took place.  

It’s a fine line and laws often dictate when action can be taken.  Oftentimes families CAN’T do anything until there is a crisis.  

I’m glad that Mrs Garner is now safe.

I still hope that those officers are arrested, stripped of their pensions, sued until they have nothing left, and then rot in hell.  That would be true justice.
