The governor of Iowa, while maintaining her dictator status by keeping emergency orders in place, has taken some baby steps towards freeing her state from the restrictions she put into place. Masks requirements in public buildings are no longer required and gathering limits are now gone. However, unlike DeSantis in Florida, she doesn’t now require local governments to follow the lead of the state. So, cities and counties can maintain their steely grip on their citizens.
Her action was based on the fact that positive rates, deaths, etc. have been plummeting since December. Which shows some semblance of recognition to reality.
In Indiana, deaths, hospitalization, and positivity rates are below where they were in April 2020. And they’re still falling. But they moved the goalposts. The original criteria for complete reopening have been memory-holed–because they’ve been met. Now it’s injection mania that’s the new driver of the bus. I can’t find anything where the General Assembly is addressing any of this. They had an excuse last year due to not being able to meet, but now….
