Please note that although I’m going to go on a mini rant regarding authors and comic book content I in no way advocate either putting those books “on hold” unlike the Burbank School District where banning books is becoming de rigeaur based solely on the color of the author’s skin, not the content of the book.
And now the rants:
Rant 1:
From Irons in the Fire/Elmtree Forge comes the news that SM Stirling, one of my previously favorite authors, has publicly advocated for the creation of a police state whose purpose is to hold people down and force the Covid-19 vaccine on them against their will because he thinks it’s important (I am paraphrasing).
To quote him directly:
“And by “compulsory” I don’t mean fines and scolding; I mean the cops will come to your house and physically hold you and your family down while the shot is administered, and if you resist will beat you to a pulp or shoot you.”
What a scared and petty little man he is. He talks big in his writing; maybe he needs to use Sauron’s Eye as his personal symbol. I am regretting the money I spent on his books and rest assured will provide no other money to his account. The joy and wonder I took in the worlds that he created are also now tarnished forever now that I know he is just a substandard excuse for a human being who apparently has aspirations to become Nurse Ratched and exercise complete control over friends and neighbors who actually have critical thinking skills and choose to use them.
Of course he wouldn’t take direct action himself, he wants The Government to carry out his disgusting fantasy.
Rant 2:
The converged and woke Marvel comics have struck again and are showing why the comics industry is swirling the drain into the realms of obscurity.
To preface, I was a comics girl back in college (many years ago) and was a Marvel fan. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies were my favorites in the Marvel universe series. I loved Chris Pratt as StarLord/Peter Quill (of course I love Chris Pratt in any role-he’s awesome).
In any case, Marvel has decided in its next Guardians comic that StarLord is now both polyamorous and bisexual, or was for 100 years in an alternate reality. I don’t care about anyone’s sexuality or their relationship status-I really don’t. What I care about is completely changing the nature of a character, just like I cared about changing the rifles in E.T. to walkie-talkies or changing the cantina scene in Star Wars to Greedo shooting first.
I just wish they would leave my sacred cows to graze happily in their pasture and not haul them off and turn them into sheep.
