It’s a great gig they’ll have going as far as keeping us plebes under control. Use private corporations and businesses to implement rules. The businesses can blame the government due to unclear rules and regs, the government can say that they are private entities and can put whatever parameters on the use of their stores that they want.
It’s already happened with masks. The government is limited in what it can do because of that ‘pesky’ Constitution and Bill of Rights. Private entities have a lot more latitude and they can be used as the enforcement arm of the government as they already have been doing.
It’s been very clear that the government has been using stores and corporations such as WalMart, Menards, etc. to carry forward things they can’t really mandate. It’s put front line clerks and waitresses into the line of fire as policy enforcers–something they aren’t getting paid near enough to do.
Long before Holcomb in Indiana decided to pussy-out and tell everyone they needed to wear useless bits of cloth across their faces, Menards had mask cops at their front door. WalMart put sweet old ladies into place figuring no one would yell at a little old lady. Pretty soon everyone else fell into line and had their mask requirement and any number of variants on enforcement personnel.
Then the government stepped in since the private folks had already gotten the populace used to having to hide their identity in order to buy household goods and food.
And so it is starting with vaccinations. International travel will be the first item–won’t be able to travel without being quarantined without proof of vaccination. In the UK, they are saying (hoping) that concerts, restaurants, etc. will follow suit and that people will not be able to go out and enjoy themselves without proof of vaccination. Academe is firmly on board with Covid vaccinations being a brand shiny new term of employment.
But here’s kicker. While the private entities are acting in loco imperium, even vaccinations will not allow freedom from the new burka as far as the government is concerned. They have spent a lot of time making this mystical cloth into a religious, virtue signaling item. And a lot of time getting the populace used to them with the help of large corporations and academia.
Since the corporations are acting as quasi-governmental agents, should they have the protections given to them as private entities? I’m thinking not.
