Everything the CDC is saying this year is skewed because they are concentrating on one thing, the Wuhan virus. The world is shouting because hospitalizations are going up for the Chi-Com virus, but sometimes it is noted that there’s almost no flu.
Looking at the flu numbers for 2017-18, 710,000 people were hospitalized for the flu. The vaccine that year was estimated to be 40% effective. Please note that they didn’t/aren’t testing everyone for the flu–their numbers are based on symptoms and a very small sample size.
The information regarding factors that exacerbate flu and placed people at high-risk for complications and death was kind of interesting. Oddly enough, they seem to be the same as the ones they mention for Wuhan.
Just a bit of perspective since the flu is something we just deal with, not panic and shutdown the world.
