The President has weighed in on the Treyvon Martin issue in Florida. The press is trying to say that the leader of this country is right to comment on a local police matter. Just like he commented on the brouhaha in Cambridge that led to the “Beer Summit” because he spoke only from what he has seen in the press–just because he’s President, it doesn’t mean that he has more insight or more information than the rest of us do.
It’s purely a matter for the local gendarme to handle. If it looks like they’re not handling it properly then the county or the state steps in. It’s not a federal case, no matter how many people, who were also not there and don’t know any more about the situation that I do, don hooded sweatshirts, scream to the skies, and call for blood.
And no, the President should not venture an opinion on a local situation like this. All he does is add fuel to what is looking like is going to end up as a lynching for George Zimmerman since he’s already being crucified and presumed guilty in the court of public opinion (which is not/should not be a stand-in for our legal system). The President has forgotten that ALL people, regardless of their skin pigmentation (or lack thereof), are innocent UNLESS they are PROVEN guilty and in lieu of hard data, should keep his mouth shut.
