So Michelle Antoinette is defending (Edited to add link 9:18 am) the White House Superbowl menu of pizza, brats, cheeseburgers, twice bakes, etc. by saying that you have to be balanced in your eating habits. She follows this up with a comment that particularly strikes me as ironic: “Life is about good food, at least in America.” The reason that this is so ironic is that Michelle and those like her, for example Mayor Bloomberg of New York City, want to take the joy out of cooking and especially out of eating. They don’t realize that part of making good food or food that tastes good, depends upon blends of fats, salts, spices, etc. They want to take away fats, salt, sugar leaving we proles to eat nothing but bok choy and carrots (try to eat bok choy without soy sauce, I dare you) while they feast on buffalo chicken wings, birthday cupcakes, and pop.
It’s the same hypocrisy that we see when it comes to carbon footprints and global warming. As soon as those elitists start walking their talk: giving up their jets, limos, yachts, 30,000 square foot houses with heated swimming pools, etc. then I might start listening. This paradigm would apply to Obama’s hypocrisy about people who “make too much money”. When they start coughing it up and quit with the conspicuous consumption and give their extra money and houses to charity then I might believe them. But they want to dictate to the ‘unwashed masses’ what we should eat, how we should light our homes, and what insurance to buy, all the while exempting themselves and their friends from the limits that they wish to place on us.
Let them eat lettuce, we’ll keep the bacon for ourselves.
