Yes. I had to explain that to a customer. He was the HEAD of IT at a hospital.
And… “No, I don’t know when your power will come back on. We’re the PHONE company. In St. Louis. You should probably ask your electric company.” He was in Illinois.
I got the automatic coffee cup holder complaint once, too. I’d thought it just an apocryphal CS joke until it actually happened to me.

The customer got a new, high end workstation in the 90s. It wouldn’t turn on. They called tech support who knew right away what to do: take the skins off and note that three wires connecting to the power supply were disconnected, so reconnect them. I’m software, not hardware, but asked the stupid question of “How do you know you connected the correct cable to the correct port?”
The customer looked at me like I was an idiot, put the skins back on, and flipped the switch. Half the building went dark. I was smart enough to just turn and walk away without saying a word.
