A feature, not a bug of SNAP shutdown

On CNN a black woman who apparently has an ‘eyebrow technician’ (whatever TF that is) was complaining because her salon was going to have to fire two technicians because their clients couldn’t afford to come there during the SNAP shutoff. Ashley Allison’s partial bio is here. Check it out, I doubt any of you will be surprised.

This woman honestly didn’t understand the ramifications of what she said.

The underlying implication was obviously that the clients were on SNAP and, since they were 1) either selling their cards for cash or 2) scamming enough to have extra cash for getting their eyebrows professionally done, once that money was put on hold, they couldn’t ‘afford’ the luxuries for which the rest of us have to save (okay, I’ve never had my eyebrows done so not one of my luxury items. I do own a nice pair of tweezers).

I doubt that was the case that she was trying to make, but make it she did. The comments were glorious, with I think the best being:

So much information about waste and fraud that came to light during this time. Now let’s see USDA.gov do something about it.

ETA: Looks like great minds were thinking alike this morning: Please check out B’s post on the same subject.

  1. ” see USDA.GOV DO anything about it…” Ya might wanna grab a snack…it’s gonna be a long wait.

    1. A snack? You must be a natural optimist. Realistically, one may as well head to the bunker and break out the doomsday preps for the waiting they’ll be doing on that.

  2. “Eyebrow technician”.

I’ve got to get in on this SNAP-to-cash scam. Therefore, I’ve decided that I’m movin’ to Montana soon. Gonna be a dental floss tycoon.*

  4. Save this for the next time they bitch about reparations. By all calculations they owe white people reparations. They could all just move to Liberia and we’ll call it good.

    1. They owe us reparations just for the number of cars, bikes and TV’s they’ve collectively stolen in the last 60 years. And let’s not overlook the total amount of property value destruction they’ve caused in neighborhoods they’ve wrecked the quality of, the schools they’ve ruined, or the mass destruction they’ve done in various and sundry riots, like LA, Detroit Chicago and Minnedishu. Their running tab is in the trillions with interest and penalities.

  5. Sigh… One more ‘indication’ there is a significant issue that is being ignored!

    BRD–Yeah, might be a longer wait…

Harbinger–I was thinking along that line myself. Sounds like a prime gig.

MrHappy–A bit of bling never hurt a thing.

    steves6–Indeed. Balance, right?

BRD–White Dems caused a lot of the things you mention.

    NFO–Exactly.

  9. So much Zappa awareness in this crowd! Kindred souls.

Sons and I are fond of quizzing one another with, “Is that a real [poncho*] or a Sears [poncho*]?”

  10. MWC – white liberals were the gun, blacks were the ammunition loaded therein. They aimed at our society and have been shooting with impunity for decades. Now, the wounds are finally looking fatal.

And the above is why one reserves the greatest hatred and harshest punishments not for their enemies, but for the traitors in their midst. For without the latter acting as enablers, the former would routinely be boot stomped into submission, the way it once was.

  11. that was “Democratic political commentator Ashley Allison” on CNN who was talking about her favorite eyebrow bar having issues now that the customers need to actually buy food with their money instead of getting food via SNAP.

See, here’s the thing about people who are on SNAP, they se SNAP as simply another source of income. They ahve zero shame in grabbing all they can from the taxpayer.

But when push comes to shove, they too realize they can do without the Bling and “beauty” treatments and the eyelashes and the designer handbags if they want to feed their kids.

  12. Harbinger–I think we’re all of an age and, although backgrounds vary, some pretty close experiences.

BRD–Indeed. Pretty sure the white liberals need to be stomped first.

B–Yes, it does go deeper–they are actually foregoing their beauty treatments and are hopefully feeding their families with what they’ve got instead. I doubt it’s a lesson that will stick, but at least it was a lesson.

  13. It’s rather obvious that the SNAP program is BROKEN (isn’t that the DEMOcrats’ favorite word?)! All those States who won’t provide their LISTS should be excluded from the Funds until they comply! There should be a RENEWAL Date for ALL enrollees! There should be REFINEMENTS – such as PICTURE ID on the new cards! Many more areas that need to be “refined”!

  16. If you can’t ‘ford “bling” when your bennies are cut off- apparently- you can’t ‘ford em period. My tax dollars at work. Lazy scum of the Earth. We already live in a quasi- communist economy. The big difference is- we make sure that those who put out the least effort to improve their position can get the “luxury” garbage that they desire. The entitlement attitudes are beyond nauseating.
