On CNN a black woman who apparently has an ‘eyebrow technician’ (whatever TF that is) was complaining because her salon was going to have to fire two technicians because their clients couldn’t afford to come there during the SNAP shutoff. Ashley Allison’s partial bio is here. Check it out, I doubt any of you will be surprised.
This woman honestly didn’t understand the ramifications of what she said.
The underlying implication was obviously that the clients were on SNAP and, since they were 1) either selling their cards for cash or 2) scamming enough to have extra cash for getting their eyebrows professionally done, once that money was put on hold, they couldn’t ‘afford’ the luxuries for which the rest of us have to save (okay, I’ve never had my eyebrows done so not one of my luxury items. I do own a nice pair of tweezers).
I doubt that was the case that she was trying to make, but make it she did. The comments were glorious, with I think the best being:
So much information about waste and fraud that came to light during this time. Now let’s see USDA.gov do something about it.
ETA: Looks like great minds were thinking alike this morning: Please check out B’s post on the same subject.
