Michigan City, Indiana schools had to do a quick pivot to remote learning last week because someone stole over a dozen catalytic converters from their school buses.
Other close-by districts loaned them buses the next day to get the kids to school.
Considering the secluded area at which the buses are parked, I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t happened before.
Considering it’s proximity to Gary, I’m in no way surprised. I used to run on the railroad through that area, and believe me- you see some things. Did Gary make murder capital of the US again, or did New Orleans take the title?

B–I’m not that familiar with the area and maybe the video just made it look more secluded than it is. Hopefully they’ve put up some cameras so it doesn’t happen again.
MrLiberty–I was actually thinking diesel would be a better option.

I was watching one of those “own precious metals” commercials that pop up the other day and it mentioned, gold, silver, platinum and palladium.
Leaned over and said to the Mrs. we already OWN palladium and her look of confusion led me to edify her as to the contents of the catalytic convertor and why they are so often stolen.
I saw that news bit and thought, that wasn’t just a random homeless dude boosting a convertor or two, that was a well organized and equipped crew. And pretty good thinkers too as you can get under a school bus without even having to jack it up.
A few “technicians”, a few cordless sawzalls and you’re off and running. Well played cretins, well played.
