Prayers for the families in Chatham, IL

A woman plowed completely through a building housing an after-school camp, killing four children and injuring at least six others. It’s suspected that she was drunk. At 3:20 in the afternoon.

Despite its proximity to Springfield, Chatham is a close knit community so this tragedy will reverberate throughout the entire town.

  1. Sounds more like a Florida thing… where in spite of pancake flat, arrow straight roads, the majority of our crashes are rollovers, car in canal or… like here, car vs. building.

A horrific event to be sure and IF the driver were to be inebriated as alluded to, life as they knew it has ended.

It may be possible that this was due to what’s referred to as a “Medical Event” behind the wheel, but it’s not sounding that way.

I was at a discussion just last night about a very similar instance… where we were discssing the plight of an individual incarcerated for life… that in a full alcohol fueled blackout did in fact kill four people while behind the wheel. This person, in jail and of course now in Recovery, to this day (years later) STILL has ZERO recollection of the event.

“If I could only get five minutes of my life back….”

    Indeed… If only.

Prayers for all involved. Totally unfathomable the tragedy, yet for some of us… these tales are all too familiar.

A grim and chlling reminder… that there but for the Grace of God…..

  2. boneman–Yes, if indeed she was inebriated then it’s a whole other issue. We’ll see what shakes out.

  3. Latest report is no impairment due to alcohol or drugs.

Current theory is a ‘medical event’ (whatever that means).

      1. crazyeighter–It seems like they were trying to get ahead of that by saying that, although she worked for the State Police at one time, no one with whom she worked is there now. Which does not mean that friends don’t have friends, especially in Illinois.
