This thing has been all over the news in the past week. Here’s a recap on the off-chance you missed it.
Woman fencer takes a knee at a competition because she doesn’t want to fence against a man. The head of USA Fencing, who believes that men are women (and is thus, IMO not fit for his position), defends the fact that the woman fencer got a black card and then doubled down on ideology.
XX-XY Sports steps up and gives the woman a scholarship and a monetary prize. It’s not going to help her in her sport unless the feds come down on them and their schools for a violation of Title IX, but it’s something. Because the judges, as is in any sport, are the ones that make the calls. She might never win a match again.
In the latest, the man that caused this issue by joining the women’s team at his college (and definitely is the college’s fault as well) has stepped off the women’s team and Wagner College is assuring EVERYONE that they are in compliance with Title IX. It’s unclear, however, if the man can compete independently in USA Fencing (not be part of a college team).
