Just Stop Oil–Finally reading the room

Those asshats at Just Stop Oil are starting to think that throwing orange cornstarch on Stonehenge and blocking traffic might not be the way to go.

Perhaps it’s because some of them are now in the slam. Perhaps it’s because Greenpeace just got a judgement against them to the tune of $667 million, which is probably going to close them down for good.

Because their antics caused people to miss crucial appointments, cost people money because they couldn’t get to work, missed funerals. Specialized lichen protecting the stones at Stonehenge were damaged.

And they finally are paying the price for their antics. So maybe consequences really are a deterrence to stupid games.

It’s about time!

  1. Good. About time these morons got a little comeuppance.

  2. Just Stop soil did not back down because of Greenpeace or a sense of decency. It is because the liberal government in the UK acquiesced to their demands and implemented no drilling policy effective 2030.

They did not give up, they won.

  3. No oil means unsightly, actually ugly, farms of those tall god awful looking wind turbines, built by the Chinese out of steel that folds up like paper mache, despoiling vista’s where ever they’re installed. Then there’s the where does electricity come from when the wind doesn’t blow? These idiots somehow overlook that besides labor, the biggest input to any economy is power to run it. They want us all to go back to 1800’s style living which isn’t going to happen.
What these people should be working on, if they weren’t general studies grads with no math skills and living off of trust funds, is thorium reactor power plants the size of the typical gas or oil fired furnace. That model would power an average sized home for twenty years before needing refueling. ‘Course then they’d be bitching about disposal of the spent thorium.

  4. The country where Great Britain used to be can also no longer make its own steel. But, at least they can go to jail for social media posts. Not the plant is owned by China.

  5. Consequences may, repeat may, stop a repeat if they’re strong enough but rarely these days are the strong enough to act as deterrence. For true deterrence look at the punishment for treason (old days) as suffered by William Wallace (aka Braveheart).

William Wallace was punished with one of the most brutal forms of execution in medieval times: he was hanged, drawn, and quartered. This punishment was the official penalty for men convicted of high treason in England at that time. Wallace was dragged to the execution site behind a horse, where he was hanged by the neck until almost dead. Then, he was emasculated and disemboweled, and his bowels (and possibly his genitals) were burned while he was still alive. Finally, he was beheaded. His head was dipped in tar and placed on a pike on London Bridge, and his body was quartered and the parts displayed in Newcastle, Berwick, Stirling, and Perth as a warning to others.

  6. I personally appreciate the way that the Porsche museum handled “Scientist Rebellion”. The group had super glued themselves to the cement — and Porsche ignored them.

You want food? Oh, that’s nice (followed by ignoring them).
You need to use the facilities? Oh, that’s nice (followed by ignoring them).
It’s the end of the day? Okay, lights out. You folks have a nice night (followed by leaving them in the dark).

They weren’t very bright for being so called “scientists”. But it once against highlights that left-wing terrorist organizations rely on the rest of society being polite and non-confrontational.

  7. boneman–I can’t think why they thought their antics would make them any friends. And all of the gas wasted by keeping people sitting in traffic….

Joe–Ergh… didn’t know that but am not surprised. How far the UK has fallen.

    Nemo–Agree on all counts.

Steel–They are a grotesque reflection of what they once were.

    steve6–I get it.

Unferth–That was classic. And they didn’t bother those folks again.
