And now the Treasury Department

DOGE moved in and found out that the Treasury Department was just paying everyone automatically. The career drones apparently had the easiest job in the world. No thought required.

“The @DOGE team discovered, among other things, that payment approval officers at Treasury were instructed always to approve payments, even to known fraudulent or terrorist groups,” said Musk in a Friday night tweet.

“They literally never denied a payment in their entire career.”

All that money, over $6 trillion, controlled by a few people who just pay anything that comes in. And since the federal government, including the Defense Department, can’t balance their books, one wonders how many ’rounding errors’ went to their friends or other accounts? I’m thinking it would be easy-peasy.

  1. Who approved or told the worker bees to approve everything? Those are the idiots that need to be hung.

  2. Odds are there was no official manual saying “approve everything.” Odds are some group of employees started doing it as an easy way to do the job. Newbie gets hired and mentored into the system. Three generations of employees later and “we’ve always done it this way.”

The current drones probably don’t have a clue who started it.

  7. Steve–It started somewhere and probably, as Unferth says, out of laziness that then gets perpetuated.

    Unferth–Agreed. Entropy and lazy wins.

Nemo–It seems to be making a comeback!

Gerry–The bureaucracy, I think, will only partially abide.

Jess–Yep, and they are like ticks–very hard to remove.
