Specifically switchblades. Which is a step in the right direction. Looking through the opinion, the MA law still stands, but is now open to challenge.
Switchblade laws are particularly problematic because most officers, either out of ignorance (or feigned ignorance) cannot tell the difference between a switchblade (press a button and the blade deploys) or a speed-assist blade (needs to be jump started using a flipper or a thumb notch or nub of some sort).
I always carry a knife with me because it’s useful. It’s not legal in Chicago which might be one more reason why I don’t go there. Modern switchblades generally are not like you see in the movies— they cannot be deployed directly into someone’s liver.
Laws against a type of blade are as stupid as those against a certain type of firearm and both are created by folks who have no clue.
