The FAA violated its own rules and the flying public could pay the price

From journalist Sally Beck (via 100percent fed up):

FAA violated their own rules that state no pilot can take medicines unless approved and in use for 12 months. Pilots are forbidden to take part in drug trials and all Covid-19 v.a. x. were allowed under emergency use authorisation. The trial finishes this year.

And it’s showing.  Most recently a First Officer had a seizure and his feet got jammed under the rudders.  Because it was an international flight, there were extra people on the flight deck that were able to get him unjammed.  Oh, and the plane was on short final, so this all had to happen pretty quickly.

From The Vigilant Fox, “there was a 126% increase in flight restrictions due to medical limitations.”

From Dr. William Makis:

Recent Pilot incapacitations or deaths:

Nov.26, 2023 – Ryanair Flight FR-3472 (LTN-RZE) from London Luton, UK to Rzeszow (Poland) – one of the pilots became incapacitated, plane diverted to Krakow and landed safely. The aircraft was awaited by an ambulance. The pilot received medical assistance.

Nov.20, 2023 – Air Transat Flight TS-186 (YYZ-PUJ) from Toronto, Canada to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – pilot became incapacitated and was replaced by a pilot passenger

Nov.16, 2023 – Air India Pilot Death – 37 year old Air India Pilot Captain Himanil Kumar had cardiac arrest at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport during training

Oct.30, 2023 – Jet2 Flight LS-1711 (MAN-DLM) Manchester (UK) to Dalaman (Turkey) – First officer became incapacitated, pilot diverted aircraft to Budapest, landed safely

From Dr. Kevin Stillwagon:

Long international flights are the safest right now due to extra pilots required to be on the flight deck during critical phases of flight that include the takeoff, initial climb, final descent, and landing. This extra pilot requirement does not currently exist for domestic flights and short international flights. However, having that extra layer of safety will not matter if this scenario happens again with involuntary flight control inputs. No number of pilots on the flight deck will be able to respond in time.

One more co-opted government fail.

  1. Boy am I thankful for TEAMs and video conferencing. There's been at least 5 or 6 meetings over the past three years that would have required air travel in the past. Today I can sit in my home office, connect via my computer, mute my microphone and play games on my phone while boring people talk. I'm close enough to retirement that I hope to avoid all company travel from here to the end. I will do almost anything, including calling in sick at the last moment, to avoid company air travel now. And personal travel? If I can't drive there in my truck I ain't going.
