Why does it seem that only men are getting arrested for this

Although I’m glad that this man is sentenced to prison for what he did, I fail to understand why women are not getting the same treatment.

What did he do?

He falsely accused the Georgia Tech men’s basketball coach of sexual assault and extortion.

He got a couple of other folks in on the con. As a side note, the liar and the true victim, the coach, were once friends.  With friends like that, who needs enemies, right?

How does this differ from the thousands of false allegations made by women all of the time?  The extortion part?  Because that happens too.

Someone asked the question five years ago, after the Brett Kavanaugh brouhaha:

Should deliberately false reports of sexual assault be subject to the same legal penalties as false reports of other felonies? Right now, accusers who lie about sexual abuse are criminally liable for filing a false report and perjury, as well as civil sanctions for defamation, but legal consequences rarely occur.

The answer is unequivocally yes.

  1. Those who file a false report should serve the SAME SENTENCE as the victim would have if proven true. THAT will stop all the lies. And anyone who assists them in the promulgation of their lie should serve the same sentence (hear that Al Sharpton).

  3. What if the accuser is telling the truth but loses the case? The majority of rape cases are he said/she said cases with circumstantial evidence.

  4. The penalty shouldn't be imposed if just a he said/she said, insufficient evidence situation. But much like the DUKE lacrosse situation, there are so many where serious evidence of coordinated lies is present. Those need serious penalties to stop them. Women or men who are sexually assaulted certainly should never be discouraged from reporting over fear of legal retribution, but liars, racist opportunists and others need serious consequences hanging over their heads.

  5. Women get away with shit that men don't all the time.Sexual predation, lies (lots of those) , often theft, etc. It is always a double standard.Women are seldom held accountable for their misdeeds at the same level as men. It's gotta be BAD before a woman is imprisoned. Our society protects them. Hell Women never even have to tell themselves the truth most of the time. They seldom hold themselves accountable for their actions. Most women will make excuses for their actions and for the actions of other women before they will admit they were wrong. How often does a woman admit she is wrong, to other OR herself? 'Tis a messed up part of society and womanhood.
