A tale of two counties

Cook and DuPage Counties are right next to each other in Illinois.  Cook County is basically Chicago.  DuPage County is the Chicago suburbs, in broad strokes.

In Cook County, they allowed a 24 year old man out on probation even though he pled guilty to aggravated domestic battery.

The miscreant then followed his ex-girlfriend to Naperville, in DuPage County, broke into a house, threw bricks through the window of the house and tossed some more bricks through some car windows (the second and third items were after he was forcibly ejected from the house).

He now in a DuPage county jail and has been denied bail.

From the tone of the Naperville Police Chief, I think the good folks of DuPage county are tired of Cook county’s crap coming onto their turf:

“Naperville residents have an expectation and a right to feel safe and secure in their community, and that is especially true within their homes,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in a news release. “The fact that this crime was allegedly committed by an individual out on probation makes this breach of safety that much more concerning.”

Naperville is a purple city with other cities around it in a light blue.  With Chicago’s crime now coming out from the city, I have a feeling there’s going to be a color change soon.
